The Tail of a Mouse (yes, tail not tale)

Last week I said goodbye to my sweet little mouse. A beautiful gray kitty with a big bushy tail. Mouse would take long walks with me, cuddle with me, nurse on my blankie (much to Stuarts dismay) and keep me from being a lonely farmers wife on these hot summer nights.

Mouse had been gone several days but being the UN-neutered male he was, I assumed he was just out doing "his thing" with the ladies. It had happened before, but after a few days there was still no sign of him. I began searching for him on my walks.  Looking up and down the hay fields beside our house. Soon the hay was cut and I had a clearer view. Still no sign.  While working in my office one day with the window open...I smelled a odd but familiar scent.  Then one morning while walking very close to our house..the dogs started rolling in the hay (ha ha).  I knew it....mouse..right there in the row of hay. Not alive...very peaceful. I am pretty sure he dared that swather to come any closer. Well, I said my goodbyes to sweet mouse and left him buried under the hay. Several days later..the hay was baled and then a few days after that I waved goodbye to the bale of hay that I was sure was carrying a little gray mouse cat. Little mouse was off to travel the world (OK..western Idaho) on a truck full of hay..wind in his fur. I was at peace with our goodbye.

But that is not the end of this story...   While out mowing my lawn I came upon a large flat fuzzy gray object.  It appeared to have legs and some other misc. bones. Could it be? Yes, mouse had come home. A much flatter, quieter version of him. There will be no resting in peace Mouse, as the dogs are having a great time playing with you. I think they like you better now.
